KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- East Carolina's Adrienne Millican posted a 54-hole score of 217 (72-74-71), one-over par to claim the individual tournament championship at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 5,909-yard Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, in South Carolina.
The junior golfer overcame a four stroke lead after the first 18-holes to win her first tournament of the year by two strokes over Campbell's Sofia Gorelik, who posted a 219 (75-74-70). Finishing in a tie for third at 220 was first round leader Sapna Patel of Charleston and Katy Heher of Coastal Carolina.
Fellow Pirate Jamie Quinn continued her impressive play on the second day by moving up four spots, finishing in a tie for 13th with a 226 (76-76-74). Senior Jessica Krasny finished in a tie for 28th after posting rounds of 77, 78, and 78 for a 233.
The Pirates (71-20-1) finished the team portion of the tournament in fourth place after posting a third round score of 295, the second lowest of the day. Notre Dame took home the team championship after a third round 291 posting a tournament score of 892 (301-300-291). A pair of Big 12 schools Texas Tech (908) and Kansas State (909) finished second and third.
"I am real pleased with the way we played today," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "Jamie's play today really picked our team up, since we were playing a man down. I am especially please with the way that we played this fall as a team. Adrienne played marvelously this season and I look for her to continue her play in the spring. If we can duplicate our success in the spring, we will be able to reach our goal of going back to the NCAA tournament again."
