The Lady Pirates (8-2) won 12 out of the 13 events. Sophomore Diane Parker (Tucker, Ga.) took first in the 200 free (1:53.07) and the 200 fly (2:04.16). Freshman Holly Williams (Palmyra, N.Y.) placed first in the 1000 free (10:22.83), the 200 back (2:06.11) and tied sophomore Lara Fuller (Bahama, N.C.) for first in the 200 IM (2:07.56). Freshman Adirenne Williams (New Castle, Del.) earned first in the 50 free (24.38). Freshman Courtney Kos (Severna Park, Md.) took first in the 500 free (5:08.36). Freshman Meredith Lindgreen (Miford, Conn.) won the 200 free (2:22.64).
In the diving well, senior diver Carrie Wright (Lansing, N.Y.) placed first on the one-meter board (225.45) and freshman Lucy Hicks (Concord, Mass.) took first on the three meter (185.70).
"On the girls side, we won every event but one," Head Coach Rick Kobe said, "so we completely dominated them. We swam very well. "
A disqualification in the final relay event was extremely costly to the ECU men's team as the Pirates' record fell to 7-3. The disqualification came just after ECU had posted a winning time of 3:07.48 to UNCW's 3:07.61 in the 400 free relay.
"On the guys side, an unfortunate thing happen," Kobe explained. "We had won the meet and then one of our swimmers jumped in while there were still people swimming in an event and that is an automatic disqualification of that relay team. So that caused us to forfeit those points and lose the meet."
The men had six first-place finishes. Junior Matt Walker (Charleston, S.C.) took first in the 200 free (1:41.37) and the 100 free (46.59). Sophomore Casey Cronin (East Providence, R.I.) earned first in the 200 IM (1:54.27) and in the 200 breast (2:09.78). Junior Matt Wildrick (Woodbury, N.J.) took first place in the 200 back (1:55.71).
On the three meter board sophomore Robbie Deer (Bloomsburg, Pa.) earned first (272.78).
