Men's Tennis Splits Matches at Clemson

The Pirates are now 1-2 in spring dual-match competition.
ECU opened the day with a tough contest against Clemson, which entered the weekend ranked 33rd in the ITA poll. The Pirates were defeated in straight sets in each match, with the exception of Brad Sullivan at flight two singles, who took the Tigers' Sander Koning down to the wire in a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 loss. ECU's number one doubles duo of Sullivan and Charl Meyer also gave the Tigers a fight. Meyer and Sullivan, who had won nine of 10 matches in fall competition, lost to Clemson's top doubles pair of Koning and Nathan Thompson by a 8-6 margin.
The Pirates' afternoon action was much more encouraging as ECU dominated Erskine, 7-0. Each match was limited to a single set and the Pirates did not allow the Flying Fleet to win more than two games in any singles or doubles match.
East Carolina will play its first home dual match next Saturday, February 8, when the Pirates host Winthrop at the ECU Tennis Complex.
