Men's Tennis Opens C-USA Shootout By Beating DePaul
February 28, 2003 | Men's Tennis
The win was ECU's first over a C-USA opponent since beginning league play last season. The Pirates were 0-4 in league matches in 2001-02.
The six-team C-USA Shootout is hosted by TCU. ECU entered as the No. 6 seed while DePaul was seeded third.
The Pirates jumped out early by winning the doubles point via victories from Brad Sullivan/Charl Meyer at flight one and Nick Rose/Paulo Baumer at flight two.
In singles play, Edward Cooper won at flight four and Felipe Fonseca took flight five--both in straight sets--to clinch the win and make the other scheduled matches unnecessary.
ECU advances in the winner's bracket to face top-seeded TCU, which received a first-round bye, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
