Pirate Men Finish In Fourth Place at Birkdale Collegiate Classic
March 17, 2003 | Men's Golf
North Carolina won the tournament with a combined score of 573, three strokes under par. The tournament, which was originally slated as a three-round tournament, was shortened to a two-round competition due to inclement weather on Saturday. Eighteen teams and 93 individuals participated in the tournament.
Jonathan Hill and Jason Harris were the top finishers for East Carolina, in a tie for 10th place. Hill was in second place after round one with a score of 69, but fell back after the second round, shooting a 76 for a combined score of 145. Harris shot one stroke over par (73) in the first round, and was even at 72 in round two.
"I was pleased with the way we played in some very tough conditions over the past two days," said ECU assistant coach Frank Adams. "We were pleased to earn wins over Old Dominion and UNC Wilmington. However, we are still not quite over the hump, but we were pleased with the way we played overall."
The men will return to action next weekend, March 21-23 when they participate in the Furman Intercollegiate. That tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
