March 23, 2003 | Softball
Louisville's first run came in the third inning. With runners on second and third, Nicole Sparks grounded out to second base, sending a run across home plate for the first score of the game. East Carolina tried to answer back in the bottom of the inning, placing runners in scoring position, but the Pirates left two on base and remained scoreless.
The Cardinals second run of the game came in the sixth inning. Sara Bausher stepped up to the plate as the first batter of the inning and hit a home run to deep left field, putting Louisville up by two runs. Again ECU remained scoreless in the sixth, this time leaving one runner on base.
Neither team scored in the seventh, and East Carolina was handed its third loss of the weekend, 2-0.
Maggie Lingo was given the loss for East Carolina, dropping her record to 3-7 on the season. She allowed eight hits and two runs and struck out just two batters. Jessica Rak earned her second win on the weekend for the Cardinals, improving to 7-4. She allowed only three hits, and no runs, and struck out four batters.
East Carolina will be in action again this Tuesday, March 25 when they play host to the Brown Bears in a non-conference doubleheader. The first game of that series is set to begin at 2 p.m.
