Swimming Pirates Receive Community Service Award
April 25, 2003 | Men's Swimming and Diving
The Pioneer Spirit Award is the highest honor given by the local chapter of the Senior Games and is awarded to participants, staff members, groups, or businesses that have shown exceptional efforts in assisting with the events over the years.
ECU representatives were formally presented with the award on Thursday night in a ceremony held at Greenville's Rose High School. ECU's women were cited for their hard work and time spent in coordinating the swimming events of the Senior Games.
"We want to recognized them for their many years of service to the Senior Games program," said event organizer Alice Keene. "They have done a great job and we really appreciate it. We hope they can be a model for some other teams and organizations who would be interested in helping us and adopt us each year."
The ECU women's swim team won the Conference USA championship this past February and is under the direction of head coach Rick Kobe.
