Men's Tennis Wraps Up ECU Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University's men's tennis team opened its 2003-04 competition on a positive note despite rain shortening the format of the ECU Invitational.
The Pirates posted five singles victories against both Radford and Richmond. The tournament included teams from Richmond, Radford and UNC Wilmington. ECU was unable to play UNCW in singles action. The tournament was not a team-scored event.
In doubles, ECU claimed one victory against Richmond and two against UNCW. Inclement weather postponed the Pirates' doubles competition against Radford opponents.
"The rain on Friday did not allow us to finish all matches," said ECU head coach Tom Morris. "I felt that we played well all weekend, particularly in singles. We made some mistakes in doubles which we will be working hard to correct in the next few weeks. Overall I was very happy with our team's unity and results this weekend."
Rain forced the tournament indoors where it was completed at Courtside Athletic Club in a pro-set format.
ECU senior Charl Meyer kept his singles winning streak intact with flight one wins over foes from both Radford and Richmond. Dating back to this past spring, Meyer has now won 14 straight.
