FLORENCE, S.C. -- East Carolina's Jason Harris is currently in second place after day one of the First Reliance Intercollegiate. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 7,041-yard Country Club of South Carolina course.
Harris shot a 36-hole total 140 (74-66) putting him at four-under par through two rounds. Harris' 66 tied a school record low round, which is shared by six other Pirates. ECU's Robin Smith and Brandon Pace are currently tied for 23rd at 148. Pace, a sophomore, fired a hole-in-one during the opening round on the par 3, 184-yard 12th hole.
Tulane's Bill Roach Jr. shot rounds of 69 and 70 to take the individual lead at five-under par. Francis Marion's Colin Floyd is sitting in third at three-under 141. Floyd is participating in the tournament as an individual.
Fourteen teams are participating in the 19th annual tournament hosted by Francis Marion University, with Jacksonville State taking the early tournament lead. The Gamecocks placed three golfers in the top 16 en route to firing a 577 (295-282). Charlotte is in second, four strokes behind shooting a 36-hole 581 (284-297), with the Pirates and Tulane tied for third at 582.
"We are positive about our play today," said assistant coach Frank Adams, III. "There are some things that we could have done better, but overall I am confident that we can still win this tournament. Jason's play today gave us a spark and I hope that will carry over to the final round."
The final 18 holes will be played today with tee-times starting at 8 a.m.
