
ECU Swimming, Diving Host Maryland-Baltimore County

The teams will swim 13 events switching between the women's teams and men's teams. Saturday's format will be the 400 medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 IM, diving, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle, diving, 200 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay.
ECU is looking to bounce back after both men's and women's teams fell to Virginia Tech last weekend. Freshman Kate Gordon won the 200 butterfly in 2:04.98 and finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.06 to pace the Lady Pirates against the Hokies. Junior Diane Parker, who earned Conference USA Swimmer of the Week honors three times during the fall season, finished second in the 200 IM (2:09.48).
Junior Casey Cronin and sophomore Robbie Derr led the men's team against Virginia Tech. Cronin won the 200 freestyle (1:41.41) and the 200 breaststroke (2:11.12). Derr won 1-meter diving scoring 250.42.
UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated George Washington and William & Mary in a tri-meet on Tuesday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium. The Retriever men's team defeated William & Mary 136-92 and beat George Washington 135-90 to move to 7-1 on the year. The UMBC women's team stayed undefeated at 8-0 with a 138-100 win over William & Mary and a 131-102 victory over George Washington.
The UMBC men took individual first place finishes in all 13 events. Carlos Canepa led the Retrievers winning the 1000 freestyle in 9:36.76 and the 500 freestyle in 4:41.48 while Jakub Sroczynski finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.04 and in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.90. On the UMBC women's side, Jessica Prosen led the Retrievers to eight first place finishes. Prosen captured first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:31.10 and also in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.19. Agnus Stanislawska finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.28 and finished second behind teammate Elyse Gibson in the 100 freestyle. Gibson took first in 53.36 followed by Stanislawska with a time of 55.27.
East Carolina swept last season's dual meet with the Retrievers with the men winning 134.5-106.5 and the Lady Pirates winning 139-99.
After the UMBC meet, East Carolina takes to the road for two dual meets before the C-USA championships. ECU travels to William & Mary on Jan. 30 and to UNC Wilmington on Feb. 7.
