
Swimming, Diving Teams Host College of Charleston Saturday

The ECU men finished 6-4 and placed second at the C-USA Invitational. Diane Parker was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Meet and the C-USA Swimmer of the Year last season. She is back for her senior season in 2004-05. ECU has all-conference performers in Adrienne Williams, Lindsey Holman, Sarah Hunt, Martha Snead, Parker, Gordon, Holly Williams, Jennie Meade and Courtney Felker returning on the women's side. Kelly Hendrick, Gavin Stark, and Casey Cronin are the all-conference performers returning on the men's side.
PURPLE, GOLD TEAMS SHARE ANNUAL MEET: The East Carolina Swimming and Diving teams kicked off the 2004-05 Friday afternoon at the Minges Aquatic Center in the annual Purple & Gold meet. Purple defeated the gold team on the men's side, 115-73, for the second straight year while the gold women took the title, 104-87, for the second consecutive year. Freshman Meghan Pulaski had two of the most impressive swims of the meet. She came within three seconds of the varsity record in the 1000 freestyle. Pulaski posted a time of 10:22.46 to set a new meet record and give the gold team the event. Pulaski won her second event and set her second Purple-Gold meet record when she posted a 5:04.39 in the 500 freestyle.
Senior Diane Parker swam a 2:09.03 in the 200 IM to set a meet record for the purple team. Parker also won the 200 breaststroke in a record 2:22.87. Senior Gavin Stark won the 100 freestyle in a meet record 47.14 for the gold team. Freshman Josh Barthlow started off his collegiate career with a win in the 200 yard backstroke. Barthlow set a record with a 1:54.20. ECU's final meet record went down in the 400 freestyle relay on the women's side. The gold team of Martha Snead, Lindsay Holman, Gillian Morrow and Kate Gordon posted a time of 3:39.12.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON: ECU's Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams defeated the College of Charleston last October. The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Cougars, 123-103, while the men's team defeated the Cougars, 128-84. Both teams won 12 of the 13 events for ECU.
Holly Williams won the 800 free (9:23.41) and 100 butterfly (1:04.99) on the Cougars short-meter course. Kate Gordon took the 200 free in 2:10.56 while Adrienne Williams won the 50 free in 28.15. Dianne Parker, placed first in the 200 IM (2:24.08). Lucy Hicks paced the divers winning the one-meter dive (235.58) and three-meter dive (245.55). Gavin Stark and Andrew Dragunas paced the ECU men each winning two events. Stark took the 200 freestyle (1:59.03) and the 100 freestyle (53.61) while Dragunas won the 100 butterfly (1:00.68) and 800 freestyle (9:08.00). Kelly Hendrick placed first in the 50 freestyle (25.17) as the Pirates went 1-2-3 in the event.
Junior Casey Cronin swam 211.79 to win the 200 IM.The 200 medley relay team of Hendrick, Zack Brown, Dragunas and Justin Brinkley placed first in 1:50.87. Sophomore Robbie Derr and junior Greg Detwiler finished 1-2 in both the one meter dive and three-meter dive. Derr scored 279.00 in the one-meter and 277.43 in the three-meter dive.
