Baumer Reaches Quarterfinals Of USC Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. ?? Senior Paulo Baumer won his first two matches at the USC Men's Invitational this past weekend before falling to eventual A-1 Flight champion Benjamin Carlotti of North Carolina in the quarterfinals (5-7, 2-6). Baumer is 10-3 through four events this fall.

He opened play with a three-set victory over the Tar Heels' Derrick Porter and then defeated Timo Siebert in straight sets to advance into the quarterfinal round. After dropping his opening round match, E

CU sophomore Darren Mansell advanced to the finals of the A-2 consolation bracket, losing to Rob Cassidy of South Carolina in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 7-10). Mansell reached the championship match by winning each of his previous three matches in straight sets.

The doubles team of Nick Rose and Mansell won their opening round match against the Virginia Tech duo of Adel Abbas and Ignasi Rocar, 8-2, but then lost in the quarterfinals to Liron King and Jimmy Petit of College of Charleston, 5-8.

Both players will compete at the ITA Fall Regionals in Chapel Hill this weekend.
