
ECU Swimming and Diving Defeats George Washington

WASHINGTON, DC - The East Carolina men's and women's swiming and diving teams defeated George Washington Saturday afternoon at Charles E. Smith Center Pool. The men (6-0) won 130-100 and the women (5-1) collected a 155-80 win.
"We really swam well today," ECU Head Swimming Coach Rick Kobe said. "We are where we need to be going into the Nike Cup next week."
The Pirate women got off to quick start, claiming victory in the first seven events of the day. Senior Diane Parker continued to lead the Lady Pirates with a victory in the 100 freestyle (53.62). Parker, along with teammates Elizabeth-Claire Moore, Kate Gordon, and Adrienne Williams opened the meet with a convincing win in the 400 medley relay (3:58.07). Freshman, Kim Brewer was the winner in the 1000 freestyle (10:33.17). Greenville native, Meghan Pulaski, was the winner in the 500 freestyle (5:07.79).
On the men's side, Senior Casey Cronin continued to dominate; winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.44. Classmate Gavin Stark won the 100 freestyle event (47.37). The 50 freesytle event went to senior Kelly Hendrick (21.45). Josh Barthlow won the 50 freestyle event (21.45) and also contributed with teammates, Cronin, Matt Donohue, and Josh Curnutte, taking the victory in the 400 medley relay (3:29.86).
In the diving pool, freshman Ryan Hunt won the three-meter event scoring a season-high 282.23. Hunt also won the one-meter competition with a score of 256.50.
George Washington was led by Bryan Ferretti who took the win in the 1000 freestyle (9:45.24) and the 500 freestyle (4:47.11). He also swam on the Colonials' 400 freestyle relay team that finished first (3:18.07).
The Pirates will compete again when the team travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Thursday, Nov. 18th for the Nike Cup. The cup will run through Saturday, Nov. 20.
