
Pirate Swimmers Rank in Nations Top 100

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University has a long tradition of swimming fast, and this year is no different. Heading into this weekends meet at Duke, both the men and women's teams are looking to stay unbeaten in the pool.
College Swimming.com recently posted the top-100 collegiate swim times in each event for the 2004-05 season. ECU had 26 times make the list, seven from the women's team and 19 from the men. This marks the most top-100 times to ever make the list this early in the season.
Senior captain Casey Cronin's time of 1:53.48 in the 200 IM against George Mason ranked 27th, while freshman standout Josh Barthlow's 100-backstroke time of 50.45, which was an ECU varsity record, placed 25th. Cronin's top times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 200-freestyle also made the list.
Four of the men's relay times also ranked in the top-30: 200 Free Relay (18th), 200 Medley Relay (19th); 400 Free and Medley Relay were 29th.
On the women's side, Diane Parker has three times listed in the 100 breaststroke (37th), 100 fly (48th) and 200 breaststroke (63rd).
"As a coaching staff, we're very pleased with the team's performance so far this season," said assistant coach Matt Jabs. "We are looking forward to continued success throughout the year."
