Adrienne Millican Finishes Ninth At Tulane Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Junior Adrienne Millican recorded her fifth top 10 finish of the season after posting a 54-hole 18-over par 234 (75-78-81) at the Tulane Invitational tying her for ninth place. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 6,075-yard course at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La.
Millican recorded a final round 81 to finish 15 strokes behind tournament champion Mary Ellen Jacobs of Tulane. Jacobs (69-72-78=219) entered the final round with a five stroke lead over teammate Liliana Alvarez (70-76-76=222) and held off a late charge for a three shot win. Finishing in a tie for third was Tulane's Lindsay Hulwick (75-74-77) and Ole Miss' Adrienne White (73-77-76) with a score of 226.
Fellow Pirate Ashley Leonard moved up four spots on day two of the tournament to finish tied for 26th (80-84-80=244). Senior Margaret Mitchell finished tied for 35th (249), Jessica Krasny was 39th (89-78-86=253), and Jamie Quinn tied for 45th (265).
The Lady Pirates (72-27-1) were one of nine teams participating in this year's tournament along with: Univ. of Alabama, Campbell, LSU, Univ. of Mississippi, Mississippi State, Univ. of New Orleans, TCU, and host school Tulane.
On a cold and wet day, the Lady Pirates struggled and finished in eight place after a final round 326 to finish with a 974 54-hole score. The Green Wave placed five golfers in the top nine to claim the team championship portion of the tournament with a 895 (288-301-306) total. LSU (929) finished 34 strokes back of Tulane for second place with Ole Miss rounding out the top three with a 936.
"We struggled a great deal today," said head golf coach Kevin Williams. "With the cold and wet weather, we were never able to get into a rhythm today to make a move. I am a little disappointed in the way we played the first two rounds. We're going to have to get back on the course and try to figure out what is going on with the team."
The Lady Pirates next tournament will be Feb 27-29 at Pinehurst No. 8 in Pinehurst, N.C.
