
Pirate Swimmers Set Records on Day One

On the women's side, TCU is in first place with a score of 232. Houston (173) is in second, while Tulane, competing in its first C-USA Championship, stands in third place with a score of 157. East Carolina (144), Cincinnati (138), Louisville (110) and Saint Louis (88) round out the top seven.
On the men's side, TCU is first with a score of 285 points, while East Carolina follows in second (202) and Louisville is ranked third with a score of 172.50. Saint Louis (123) and Cincinnati (116.50) follow in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
The Pirates set five varsity records Thursday. On the women's side, the 200 freestyle relay team of Adrienne Williams, Lindsay Holman, Sarah Hunt and Martha Snead finished second in an ECU record 1:35.17. ECU's 400 medley relay team of Snead, Meredith Lindgren, Parker and Williams placed second in an ECU record 3:51.52.
ECU men's team was led by Kelly Hendrick, who broke the ECU record in the 50 freestyle. Hendrick swam 20.74 to break the record, which dated back to 1979. Hendrick also helped the Pirates to a second place finish in the 400 medley relay, Hendrick swam the first leg and set the ECU record in the 100 backstroke (50.88) as the team of Casey Cronin, Kenny Flory, Hendrick and Matt Walker broke the varsity record (3:22.48). The 200 freestyle relay team of Hendrick, Gavin Stark, Matt Walters and Cronin broke an 11-year old ECU record finishing in 1:22.49.
Junior Greg Detwiler scored 255.05 in 1-meter diving to finish fourth while sophomore Robbie Derr placed eighth (213.35).
ECU continues competition Friday with preliminary rounds being held in the morning. The top swimmers from the morning session will advance to the finals in the evening session.
