Pirate Tennis Opens C-USA Shootout With Win
February 27, 2004 | Men's Tennis
The Pirates, 6-1, claimed the doubles point behind wins from Paulo Baumer and Nick Rose at flight two and Mark Gellard and Felipe Fonseca at flight three.
That point required ECU to only win three matches in singles to clinch the team victory, and the Pirates did so quickly with wins by Charl Meyer at one, Fonseca at three, and Gellard at five.
The Pirates entered the mid-season tournament as the No. 4 seed among eight teams, six of which are playing this weekend in Fort Worth. The other six are competing in New Orleans.
ECU advances to face No. 2 seed and nationally ranked (No. 56) Louisville on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
