ECU Men's Tennis Falls to Louisville
February 28, 2004 | Men's Tennis
The match was part of the Conference USA Shootout, an in-season tournament where six league teams are facing off in Fort Worth while the other six are playing in New Orleans.
Two hard-fought matches went Louisville's way at the wire to clinch the win for the Cardinals (6-5). At flight two doubles, ECU's Nick Rose and Paulo Baumer were edged by Jakob Gustafsson and Octavian Nicodim, 9-8. ECU also had a chance at grabbing a point at flight three singles, but the Pirates' Felipe Fonseca came up short in his bid to upset Damar Johnson, who is nationally ranked as an individual, and fell in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
The Pirates (6-2) will play in a loser's bracket match on Sunday when they face DePaul at 10:30 a.m. CT.
