Men's Tennis Stays Unbeaten With Win at CofC
February 09, 2004 | Men's Tennis
The win came against a College of Charleston team that won the Southern Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season. Competition was held at CofC's brand new College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
ECU began action Saturday by taking the doubles point with wins by Paulo Baumer and Nick Rose at flight two (8-5) and Felipe Fonseca and Mark Gellard at flight three (8-3).
The doubles point ended up being the difference in the match as the two teams split the six singles matches. Baumer, Fonseca, and Gerard Galindo claimed victories for ECU at flights two, fou, and six, respectively. Galindo's three-set win (4-6, 7-6, 6-2) sealed the victory for the Pirates.
The Pirates will return to the Palmetto State on Friday (3 p.m.) to face South Carolina State in Orangeburg.
