Adrienne Millican Claims Waterlefe Invitational Individual Title

BRADENTON, FL. ? Junior Adrienne Millican recorded a final round 76 to claim her second individual title of the season with a 54-hole score of 222 at the Waterlefe Invitational. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 5,987-yard course at the Waterlefe Golf Club.
After second round action, Millican found herself in familiar territory as she sat atop the leader board with a two-stroke advantage. Her solid play, along with fellow Pirate Heidi Helliesen's seventh place finish (81-70-79=230), gave the Lady Pirates (85-28-1) their fifth top-five finish of the season.
Campbell's Sofia Gorelik finished two-strokes behind Millican with a three-day total of 224. Audrey Gale (UNCW) fell one place as she claimed third-place honors after a final round 77.
Fellow Lady Pirates Michelle Williams finished tied for 47th (241), Margaret Mitchell finished tied for 56th (245), and senior Jessica Krasny posted a 54-hole total 246 for a 59th placement.
In the team portion of the tournament, ECU finished in second place six strokes (932) behind tournament champion Mississippi (306-302-318=926). Central Florida ended up one stroke back from the Lady Pirates in third, while UNC Wilmington and College of Charleston finished fourth and fifth respectively.
"I am extremely proud of the way Adrienne and Heidi played," said head coach Kevin Williams. "The team came out as a whole and got us some quality wins against teams that are on the bubble for postseason play. This second place finish gives us some confidence and momentum as we head into our last two tournaments."
ECU was one of 15 teams participating in the tournament along with: Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Louisville, Campbell, UCF, Kentucky, College of Charleston, UNC Wilmington, Southern Miss, USF, Mississippi State, Florida International, Georgia State, and UAB.
The Lady Pirates will be back in action this weekend at the prestigious Liz Murphey Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia.
