CHARLESTON, IL -- East Carolina University assistant women's basketball coach Brady Sallee (pronounced Sal-ee) has been named head coach of the Eastern Illinois University women's basketball team, Dr. Richard McDuffie, Director of Athletics, announced Friday (April 23).
"I'm obviously very excited to receive this opportunity at Eastern, and to be affiliated with the highly respected Ohio Valley Conference," Sallee said.
"With a number of experienced players returning, the future of Eastern women's basketball is very promising.
"My immediate plans are to make sure the returning players understand what is expected so they can begin preparing to be successful next season. We'll also quickly address some recruiting needs, and then obviously work hard to get settled here as soon as possible."
Sallee just finished his second year as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at East Carolina after seven years as a women's assistant at Kent State.
East Carolina was 26-30 the past two years, a significant improvement after winning just six games in 2002 prior to Sallee joining a new Pirate coaching staff.
"Brady Sallee has assisted at three Division I level universities, and in each case the program improved significantly during his tenure on the staff. He has proven to be an excellent recruiter, and because of his experience at Kent State he has considerable knowledge of our recruiting base in the midwest and OVC area," said McDuffie.
"Brady was well liked by all groups during the interview process. He is dedicated to coaching women's basketball, and has a plan that will make Eastern Illinois University women's basketball very competitive in the Ohio Valley Conference."
During Sallee's tenure at Kent State, the Golden Flashes won five Mid-American Conference regular season championships, three tournament championships and participated in the NCAA tournament four of his seven years. KSU's combined record was 155-56.
Sallee was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Idaho State for two years. Two Bengal players earned Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year honors and a third player was All-Big Sky as a freshman.
He is a 1993 graduate of Thomas More (KY) College where he was a four year letter winner in baseball.
