GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina's Adrienne Millican has received a bid to participate in the 2004 NCAA East Regional Championships announced by the NCAA on Monday. The regional will be held from May 6-8 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The junior from Fuqua-Varina, N.C., caps off an exciting month in which she was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Month for March 2004, she earned first team All C-USA honors, and finished second in the C-USA Golf Championships on her way to being named to the all-tournament team.
On the season, Millican has recorded five top five finishes and seven top-10's, including tournament titles at the Edwin Watts Intercollegiate and Waterlefe Invitational. She currently ranks first on the team with an average 18-hole score of 76 and is ranked 78th nationally by Golfstat and 94th by Golfweek.
"Adrienne is very deserving of this bid," said ECU head golf coach Kevin Williams. "She played very consistent through out the whole year and carried our team. Over the last five tournaments, she has four top-10 finishes, and is playing some great golf right now. It is a little disappointing that the team fell short of an at-large bid, but I feel Adrienne will represent us well in Florida."
The Lady Pirates (92-46-1) concluded their season last week at the C-USA Champioships with a fifth place finish. For the season, ECU recorded six top-10 finishes including a first-place finish at the Louisville Cardinal Cup (Sept. 20-21, 2003).
The top eight teams and the two low individuals, that are not on the top eight, will advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Alabama on May 18-20.
