
Softball Takes Two From UNC Wilmington

The Pirates ended their four-game losing streak and improved to 37-11-1 on the season, while the Seahawks dropped to 16-26.
ECU senior Lacassa Hill went 3-for-7 on the day, scoring five runs and recording four stolen bases and senior Kristen Johnson went 3-for-6, with two RBI's and two runs. Junior Kate Manuse also collected three hits, adding seven RBI's and one home run on the day.
Freshman Krista Searle paced the Seahawks with three hits and sophomore second baseman Ashley Chunn added two hits in four plate appearances. Senior Christy Ross tabbed two hits and one RBI on the day.
In game two, Hill led off the first inning with a triple to right center and would later score on Manuse's RBI single to left center.
East Carolina bulged its lead to 3-0 with two runs in the fifth inning. Hill started off the inning with a walk, stole second and scored on Johnson's RBI single to right center. Sophomore Christine Sheridan's double to right brought Johnson home from second.
UNCW tallied four hits, while stranding five runners. Christina Elmore, Searle, Jess Luckett and Chunn each notched one hit.
The Pirates added four runs on four hits in the seventh inning. Manuse's three-run blast highlighted the inning.
Junior pitcher Maggie Lingo and freshman pitcher Keli Harrell combined for a four-hit shutout for ECU. Lingo collected her 13th win of the season, going four innings, allowing four hits and no runs, while Harrell came in relief tossing three innings and fanning five.
UNCW's hurler Amanda Wilson (3-8) went the distance, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, striking our four and walking one.
East Carolina opened up the first game with a 2-0 lead. The Pirates' runs came off one hit and two Seahawk errors. Hill led off the inning with a single, stole second and third. She scored the first run of the game on Manuse's sacrifice fly to right. Sheridan scored the second run on a UNCW miscue.
The Seahawks knotted the game at 2-all in their half inning. Elmore led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a Pirate error. With one out,Ross's single plated Elmore and Hayley House, who reached on the ECU error.
ECU batted around the fifth inning to push its lead to 8-2. The Pirates scored six runs on five hits and two UNCW errors.
The Pirates increased their lead to 9-2 in the top of the seventh. Junior Andiey Acosta drew a walk. She advanced to second on a fielder's choice, then stole third and scored on Lara Brickhouse's single to left.
Brentley Brigdeforth went five innings for the Pirates, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out none.
Junior pitcher Jamie Gostyla (9-8) suffered the lose for UNCW. She tossed four innings, giving up seven runs on five hits, fanning two and walking two
ECU resumes Conference USA play Friday, April 9 against South Florida at 1 p.m.
