GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina head volleyball coach Colleen Munson has announced the signing of Trish Monroe (Portage, Mich.) and Mignon Dubenion (Aurora, CO.) to the 2004 Pirate class. They will join Kim Jefferson (Laurel Hill, N.C.) and Kelley Wernert (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) who signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
As a 5-6 defensive specialist, Monroe led Portage Central High School to consecutive conference and district championships as a junior and senior. During her senior season, she took home several post-season honors which include All-District, All-District Captain, All-Region, Honorable Mention All-State, Defensive MVP and was a two-time Academic All-State honoree.
Monroe also played golf during the 2003 season where she guided Portage Central to a No. 11 ranking in the state, team and individual conference championships and was named 2003 Junior Golf Association Player of the Year.
Dubenion, a 5-10 middle blocker/outside hitter, comes to East Carolina from Overland High School where she was a three-year letter winner, two-time all-conference selection and team captain. She led the team in blocks and aces in consecutive years and as a senior guided Overland to state championship appearance.
As a two-time Junior Olympic team member, Dubenion also played for the Front Range Volleyball Club. She garnered all-tournament honors at the Rocky Mountain Regional Qualifier in 2002, and in 2003 she helped her club capture the Far Western Tournament championship.
"We are very fortunate to have such talented players and outstanding young women join our volleyball program," said Munson. "Both Trish and Mignon come from winning high school programs and understand what it takes to be successful on the court. We look forward to the future of Pirate Volleyball with the addition of both Trish and Mignon."
