
Shawn Heinchon Named Assistant Tennis Coach

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Shawn Heinchon, who has been coaching collegiate tennis for six years, has joined the tennis staff at East Carolina University, according to an announcement made by Tennis Head Coach Tom Morris. As an assistant coach, his primary duties will be coaching the men's tennis team and will be involved with all aspects of the program.
A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Heinchon served as the assistant men's coach at Wake Forest University from 1998 to 2003, where guided the Demon Deacons to a 67-62 record. In his six seasons at Wake, he has coached 10 All-ACC players, two ACC Rookie of the Years, six NCAA participants and defeated three nationally ranked top-10 opponents.
Before heading to Wake, Heinchon spent two years as the Head Professional Instructor at Bardmoor Country Club and Bardmoor Stearns Academy, both located in Largo, Fla., where he oversaw private individual and group instruction for adults and junior players. He also planned and conducted camps for highly ranked players as well as coached players in local and national tournaments.
"We are extremely fortunate to have hired a quality coach such as Shawn and to have him involved with our tennis program here at East Carolina," said Morris. "He has strong Division I coaching experience and will be involved in every aspect of our programs. There is no question that Shawn will help to expand our current level of success in both men's and women's tennis."
A 1993 graduate of Southwestern Louisiana, Heinchon was a four-year starter in singles and doubles and helped his team to the 1992 Sunbelt Conference championship. In 2002, he was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Assistant Coach of the Year an was a finalist for the National ITA Assistant Coach of the Year.
