Baumer Advances Into the Semifinals

Wilmington, N.C. --- East Carolina senior Paulo Baumer defeated UNC Wilmington's Grant Holland in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to advance to the semifinals of the Landfall-UNC Wilmington Invitational Tennis Tournament Friday at the Country Club of Landfall's Landfall Sports Center.
Baumer will face Dennis Myers of NC State on Saturday as the tournament resumes at 8:30 a.m.
Baumer's doubles partner, junior Nick Rose, was defeated in three sets by William Nobbitt of NC State. The duo's doubles match against Coastal Carolina's team of David Mellis and Florentine Meynie was suspended due to rain.
On the women's side, ECU's Alex Smith and Zandy Overcash were each beaten in straight sets. Smith fell to Tory Zawacki of Duke (6-2, 6-2), while Charlotte Tansill of North Carolina defeated Overcash (6-0, 6-1). The duo also dropped its doubles match to UNCW's team of Kristen Mears and Molly Molony (8-3).
