Baumer Moves Into Tourney Finals

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- Paulo Baumer defeated NC State's Dennis Myers in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) Saturday in the Landfall-UNCW Tennis Invitational at the Landfall Tennis Center to advance to the championship match. Baumer will face Davis Mellis of Coastal Carolina in the finals on Sunday.

Tournament play continues Sunday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

After dropping the first set to North Carolina's P.J. Petrides, Nick Rose rallied to force a third set, but fell in the deciding set (4-6, 6-3, 8-10). Rose and Baumer were also defeated in doubles action by Myers and William Nobbitt of NC State, 8-6.

Alex Smith and Zandy Overcash each dropped her consolation match in the ladies bracket. Virginie Dinh of Coastal Carolina (1-6, 0-6) beat Smith, while Overcash lost to Lucia Henkle of Mount Olive (2-6, 0-6).
