
Meet Records Fall In Annual Intrasquad Competition

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina women's swimming team set eight records during the annual Purple-Gold meet on Thursday. Sophomores Rebecca Perry and Megan Pulaski each set two individual meet records, while helping establish a new 400 freestyle relay record.
Perry, a Greenville native and transfer from NC State, set new meet records in the 100 and 200 freestyle. She nearly equaled the ECU varsity record of 51.04 in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.27, while her time of 1:53.12 in the 200-yard freestyle was less than two seconds off the varsity mark.
Pulaski established new meet records in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle, events in which she currently holds the ECU varsity record. Pulaski's completed the 500-yard race in a time of 5:04.33 and the 1,000-yard event in a time of 10:22.46.
Perry and Pulaski assisted Jennie Meade and Holly Williams in producing a new meet record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.59.
Senior Adrienne Williams set a new meet in 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.12. Williams currently holds the varsity record in the event with a time of 23.64 and the ECU freshman record with a time of 23.70. Freshman Amanda Duncan finished second in the race with a time of 24.73.
Junior Kate Gordon eclipsed the meet record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.00, while helping the 400 medley relay team of Allison Miller, Kelly Shinton and Adrienne Williams establish a new mark of 3:55.62.
Shinton also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.13, while EC Moore took first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.87.
On the men's side, a trio of swimmers claimed first place finishes in two events. Junior Bryan Yasinac, a transfer from the University of Florida, won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races; freshman Andrew Phelps prevailed in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle; sophomore Greg Neville was triumphant in the 100-yard backstroke and led off the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 48.50. Sophomore Geoff Handsfield also had a solid performance in the 200-yard butterfly and freestyle events.
East Carolina officially opens the 2005-06 season at College of Charleston on Saturday, Oct. 15.
