Four Seniors Honored Friday Night In Minges

GREENVILLE, N.C.--Seniors Johanna Bertini, Pam Ferris, Katie Jannusch and Erica Wilson will be honored Friday night in Minges Coliseum between games two and three of the ECU-Memphis volleyball match as their four-year careers at East Carolina come to a close. All four seniors have played in the majority of ECU's matches the last four years, a period in which ECU improved their win total each season. The group won six matches as freshmen, 10 as sophomores, 11 as juniors and currently 16 matches this season as seniors.
ABOUT EAST CAROLINA
ECU returns home after picking up two shutouts over the weekend at UCF and Southern Miss. The Pirates have won their last three Conference USA matches and currently sit in sixth place in the league with a record of 7-6. Pam Ferris became just the sixth player in school history to surpass 1,000 kills in a career after recording 11 kills Friday night against UCF. Ferris, who has a team-high 381 kills thus far, is also leading the team in kills per game (4.01), attack attempts (939) and service aces (36) while ranking second in digs (272). Mignon Dubenion leads ECU in attack percentage (.317) and blocks per game (0.82) while also ranking fourth in kills per game (2.55) and aces (15). Heidi Krug has recorded 1,254 assists (13.20 apg) and needs just 15 more assists to set the all-time single-season school record for assists in a season. Kelly Wernert has played well down the stretch, ranking second on the team in kills (141) and kills per game (3.28) in C-USA play. Libero Trish Monroe currently ranks ninth all-time at ECU in a single-season with 363 digs (4.08 dpg).
ABOUT MEMPHIS
Nancy Nellans and Ashley Liford lead the Tiger offense with a combined 710 kills between the two outside hitters. Nellans leads the team with 380 kills (3.39 kpg) while Liford ranks second with 330 kills (3.06 kpg). Christen Clayton and Nellans have tallied 422 and 411 digs respectively to lead the Tiger defense while setter Laura Cote has collected 280 digs and 57 total blocks thus far. Shelby Burton leads the Memphis defense at the net with 95 total blocks (1.07 bpg) while also ranking third on the team with 249 kills. Cote directs the Tiger offense, recording 1,318 assists (11.77 apg) while Clayton's 47 service aces leads four Tigers with at least 40 aces thus far.
PIRATES VS. MEMPHIS
The Tigers hold a 6-0 advantage over ECU all-time with Memphis winning 3-2 earlier this season over ECU in Memphis. Kelley Wernert Pam Ferris each recorded 15 kills to lead the Pirates while Ashley Liford led five Tigers in double-figure kills with 18. ECU won the first and the fourth games before the Tigers won the deciding game five, 15-6.
UP NEXT FOR ECU
ECU will host UAB for the final regular season C-USA game at 1 p.m. on Sunday inside Minges Coliseum. The Pirates and the Blazers, who rank sixth and ninth respectively in the league coming into the weekend, have a lot at stake in terms of seeding for the upcoming C-USA tournament. ECU will play one final regular season game on Tuesday, Nov. 15 against in-state rival and former C-USA foe Charlotte at 7 p.m. inside Minges Coliseum.
