GREENVILLE, N.C.--The 2005 East Carolina volleyball team enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in school history under first-year head coach Chris Rushing. The Pirates, who had yet to finish above .500 since joining Conference USA in 2001, finished the 2005 season with a record of 20-11 overall and 9-6 in C-USA play. The following is a list of accomplishments and records the team set this season:
Team Accomplishments
• The team finished 20-11 this season, the team's best mark since 1982. ECU's 20 wins in 2005 makes the squad one of just three teams in the last 29 years at East Carolina to record at least 20 wins.
• ECU had their best season since joining Conference USA, finishing in fifth place with a record of 9-6 in league play.
• The Pirates also picked up their first Conference USA tournament win with a 3-0 victory over Southern Miss in the first round.
• The Pirates placed three players on the all-conference team including Pam Ferris on the first team and Erica Wilson and Heidi Krug on the third team. Prior to this season, ECU had yet to have a first, second or third team performer since joining Conference USA.
• The 2005 squad set all-time single-season records for team kills (1,795) and team assists (1,626). The previous single-season highs were 1,633 kills in 1994 and 1,405 assists in 1995.
Individual Player Accomplishments
• Krug set the all-time single season assist mark in school history with 1,510 assists, passing Sarah Laurent who recorded 1,268 assists in 1994. She finished the season with a 13.36 assists per game average, currently the 12th highest average in the country.
• Krug was also named C-USA Setter-of-the-Week Sept. 19, the first time an ECU player has been awarded setter-of-the-week since ECU joined the league.
• Wilson and Mignon Dubenion finished the 2005 season with the second and third-best single season hitting percentage in school history with Wilson hitting .329 and Dubenion hitting .325.
• Libero Trish Monroe recorded 443 digs, the third-highest single-season total in school history.
• Ferris' 455 kills this season ranks her third all-time at ECU in a single-season. Ferris also became the school's career all-time leader in aces with 157 while ranking fifth in career kills (1,091) and seventh in digs (961).
• Ferris' 455 kills gives her the highest single-season total since Carrie Brne recorded 518 kills in 1995.
• Johanna Bertini ended her career with 1,257 digs, ranking her second all-time in school history.
