GREENVILLE, N.C. --- After a four-year absence from the schedule, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington will renew their longtime rivalry New Year's Eve inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on the ECU campus. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Pirates and Seahawks haven't faced off on the basketball court since ECU left the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) to become an all-sports member of Conference USA in 2001. The two schools will be meeting for the 57th time overall and first as non-conference opponents since 1984. ECU and UNCW competed together as members of the of the CAA from 1985-2001.
East Carolina is coming off an 87-54 win over Limestone on Wednesday, snapping a five-game losing streak, while UNC Wilmington enters the game after suffering just its third loss of the season Tuesday night to College of Charleston, 81-77.
A pair of seniors lead the way for both schools. ECU senior forward Corey Rouse is the Pirates' top scorer with 15.3 points per game and Conference USA's top rebounder at 10.8 boards per game. UNCW senior guard John Goldsberry leads the Seahawks with 12.9 points per game and is its top three-point field goal shooter (.476).
The Seahawks have won the last three meetings in the series, but ECU holds a six-game edge in the series at home.
