ORLANDO, Fla. - East Carolina (35-36-2) senior Adam Howell and junior Robin Smith each fired a five-over par round of 77 and are tied for 47th place after the first round of the UCF/ Rio Pinar Intercollegiate. The tournament, which is being played at the par-72, 6,978-yard Rio Pinar Country Club, was postponed due to darkness Monday afternoon.
UCF's Preston Brown shot a one-under par 71 in windy conditions Monday morning to pace UCF with a team score of 291 (3-under par) and took a four-shot lead over Tulane and the rest of the 18-team field heading into Tuesday's action.
Brown is tied for third with two other players, two shots behind leader Chris Wheeler (Tulane) and one shot behind Texas Arlington's Tyrone Mordt.
Louisville, Lamar and UNC-Wilmington round out the top five at 8-over-par 296.
