
Women's Tennis Take Out Elon

The Pirates (8-2) captured the doubles point via victories at No. 1 (Kirstin Buchanan and Mireia Gol over Evin Prelec and Kelly Fleck 8-4) and No. 3 (Gillie Bailey and Alex Smith over Molly Cade and Alli Benton 8-5). Elizabeth Kernodle and Melissa Holland posted a win for the Phoenix (1-1) at No. 3, beating Raluca Baicu and Hannah Priest 8-4.
In singles action, Buchanan overcame Prelec at No. 1 (4-6, 6-1, 2-1 retired), Bailey outlasted Fleck at No. 2 (6-3, 5-7, 6-1), Gol held off Kernodle at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4), Baicu beat Holland at No. 4 (7-5, 6-0), Priest downed Diana Pulupa at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and Smith defeated Cade at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).
This coming Saturday, East Carolina hosts Appalachian State at 10 a.m. while Elon entertains Wofford in its Southern Conference opener at noon.
