Pirates' Swimmer and Diver Sweep C-USA Honors

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's freshmen duo of Megan Pulaski and Christie Icenhower swept the Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week accolades, respectively, for their recent performances. The two, whose collegiate honors are first for both, helped the Lady Pirates finish the 2004-05 regular season with a 168-76 victory over UNC Wilmington last Saturday in the Minges Aquatic Center.

Pulaski, a Greenville native, shattered her own 1,000-yard freestyle record last weekend to lead ECU to an overall 7-2 record for the regular season. Pulaski posted wins in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:13.22, which broke her previous record by more than five seconds and the 500 free in 5:03.72. Pulaski owns school records in the 500-yard free (4:55.41) and 1,000-yard free (10:13.22). The freshman's time in the 1,000 free also set the Minges Natatorium pool record.

Icenhower (Lawrenceville, N.J.), finished her rookie regular season by setting a new East Carolina record in the three-meter diving event last weekend. She tallied a season-high score of 296.10 points in the event. Icenhower has proven to be among the elite divers in the conference heading into the C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational, which is tabbed for Feb. 23-26 in Houston, Texas.
