Pirate Tennis Teams Swept By Winthrop

The men's started slowly at doubles action by losing the first and second matches. The third one was called off after the point had been decided in favor of East Carolina.
Having to win four out of six matches, the Eagles came back in good fashion at the singles games. After having won the numbers one, five and six matches, Winthrop closed the face-off with a win from freshman Vinicius Bortolatto at the number two position. The Eagles still won one more match with freshman Rodrigo Santos at number three. Sophomore Jorge Padilla was the only Eagle to lose a singles match this Wednesday at the number four slot.
On the women's side, the Lady Eagles jumped on top of ECU with two doubles victories. The Lady Pirates still collected a victory at the number two match, but the doubles point went to Winthrop's hands.
In singles action, junior Paula Takahashi blanked her opponent to capture a win at number four seed. Senior Ana Simanca, at the number six position, was the second Eagle to post a win. The dual match was decided when senior Jenny Andrade recorded Winthrop's fourth point at number five. Sophomore Ana Novaes still gathered one more point for the Lady Eagles at the number one play. Seniors Danielle Moita and Renata Caceres lost their matches at numbers two and three, respectively.
