Jeff Ostrander Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week

IRVING, TEXAS--East Carolina junior Jeff Ostrander has been named Conference USA pitcher of the week league officials announced Monday. The announcement marks the second time this season a Pirate pitcher has been named C-USA pitcher of the week. Sophomore Mike Flye was given the honor for the week of Feb. 28-March 6.
Ostrander pitched 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball against seventh-ranked Georgia as the Pirates upset the Bulldogs 7-1 in the final game of the Keith LeClair Classic. In just his third career start, Ostrander struck out a career-best seven batters and allowed just two hits to notch his first win of the season.
The left-hander from Ashland, Va. has an ERA of 3.93 this season with a record of 1-1. In 18 1/3 innings pitched this season, Ostrander has allowed 15 hits while striking out 12 batters and walking eight.
ECU will return to action Tuesday when the team hosts North Carolina A&T at 3 p.m. in Clark-LeClair Stadium.
