
Softball Drops One-Run Decision To DePaul

The game remained scoreless through six innings, but East Carolina was able to post two runs in the top of the sixth. Alison Monce doubled to begin the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly three batters later. With two-outs, Leigh Savoy doubled to center to plate the Pirates second run of the game.
Senior left fielder Dana Kenney started the bottom of the sixth with a single to left field to get the Blue Demons bats going. Two batters later, senior All-American Saskia Roberson recorded her 48th career home run, sending the ball over the center field fence to tie the ballgame at two apiece.
East Carolina started the seventh off with a single, but the next three-batters were retired by sophomore DePaul pitcher Tracie Adix.
Clutch hitting led the Blue Demons in the seventh inning. Sophomore Kate Sheaks singled to ignite the DePaul bats. Two batters and two outs later freshman Sandy Vojik singled to advance Sheaks to second. Kenney drove in the winning run, singling to right field to plate Sheaks.
Adix (17-5) finished the game with seven strikeouts and allowed just five hits. Keli Harrell (25-11) recorded the loss for the Pirates.
ECU returns to action Saturday in a Conference USA doubleheader against Charlotte. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon in Greenville, N.C.
