
Bulls Shutout Pirates in Seven Innings, 10-0

Matt McHargue, who came within a double of hitting for the cycle, had the best day at the plate for the Bulls, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Joey Angelberger also collected three hits while Brian Baisley and Dexter Butler tallied two hits apiece. Jeremy Bellotti led the club with three RBI while four USF hitters scored two runs on the day.
Thomas earned the win for the Bulls, throwing five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while walking two and striking out two. James Rowe allowed three hits in 1 2/3 innings before Tim Mattison came on in the bottom of the seventh, retiring a batter to finish the game.
Ricky Brooks tossed just 3 2/3 innings before giving way to Mike Flye. Brooks gave up five runs, only two earned, on seven hits while walking one USF batter. Flye struggled in relief of Brooks, allowing five runs on six hits while walking three in two innings of work.
Harrison Eldridge was the lone Pirate with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with two doubles to right.
Three consecutive singles to lead off the first resulted in the first USF lead of the series with a run in the top of the first. Ty Taborelli, who led off the game with a single up the middle, scored from second two batters later on a Bryan Heirlmeier single to left.
The Bulls added four more runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. McHargue, who tripled down the line in right a batter earlier, scored on a Ryan Peisel error at first on a Brian Baisley grounder for the first run of the inning. After loading the bases, USF plated Brian Baisley and Brandin Daniel on Peisel's second error of the inning on a Taborelli line drive. Angelberger's second single of the game brought home Butler from third to close the scoring in the inning.
McHargue belted a solo homer off the scoreboard in right in the bottom of the fifth before a Butler single to left brought home Brian Baisley. Bellotti then cleared the bases with the second home run of the inning, a three-run shot to left, pushing the lead to 10-0.
ECU returns to Greenville Tuesday, May 10 to face in-state foe N.C. State for the fourth time this season. After defeating the Wolfpack at the Homewood Suites Shootout in Charleston Feb. 26, the Pirates have dropped the last two meetings between the two schools. First pitch Tuesday is slated for 7 p.m. at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
