Pirate Swimming Announces Coaching Staff Changes

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Steve Parsons, a three-time All-America swimmer at Ashland University, has joined the swimming and diving staff at East Carolina as an assistant coach announced head coach Rick Kobe Tuesday. Parsons replaces Chris Feaster who was named men's swimming head coach at James Madison University earlier this summer.
Kobe also announced that assistant coach Matt Jabs has been promoted to head assistant coach. The 2005-06 season is Jabs sixth season as a member of the coaching staff and his 10th in the program. Since joining the staff, Jabs has helped coach the Pirates to a pair of conference championships, working primarily with the sprint freestylers and sprint backstrokers.
Parsons spent last season as an assistant coach at North Dakota, where he helped coach the Fighting Sioux to a sixth consecutive men's conference championship and third place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships. He also helped coach the women's team to a fifth place national finish and a second place finish at the conference championships.
Prior to joining the staff at UND last season, Parsons served one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Ashland University, located in Ashland, Ohio. He helped coach the Eagles' men swimming team to a fourth place finish at the conference championships, while coaching two swimmers to individual conference titles.
Parsons also spent two seasons at Wheeling Jesuit University. In his first season with the Cardinals, he stepped in as Interim Head Coach and guided the men's team to its second consecutive conference crown, while leading the Lady Cardinals to a third place finish.
During his second year with the Cardinals, he assisted in guiding the men's team to a third straight conference championship and helped the women's team a second place finish, their highest finish ever at the conference championships. Throughout his tenure at Wheeling Jesuit, Parsons coached an Olympian, an NCAA Division II record holder/champion, qualified seven individual for the NCAA Championships, and guided six individuals to All-America honors.
Parsons earned his bachelor's degree from Ashland University in 1997 and received his MBA from Wheeling Jesuit in 2002.
