Steele Tops Pirates In Wins At UNC Fall Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Britton Steele won four singles matches to lead the East Carolina men's tennis squad last weekend at the UNC Fall Invitational held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Senior Nick Rose, along with freshmen Brian Walters and Aleksey Kochetov, added a pair of wins each to help highlight ECU's second tournament of the fall season.
After taking an early loss, Steele knocked off Felix Bernhoerster (UNC) 6-7, 6-3 (11) and continued to run through his bracket by defeating Jeff Muthig of Wofford (6-4, 6-2), Marc Sifre of Campbell (default) and Stephan Berajawala of Richmond (6-4, 6-2).
In doubles action Henrique Viana and Ricardo Barone teamed up to post a pair of victories over Wofford's Chris Barlow/Andrew Stubbs (8-3) and Richmond's Bobby McNally/Matt Stillwagon (8-5).
After an off week, the Pirates will return to action Oct. 14-16 at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia.
