
Pirates Drop First Match Of Season To Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Demon Deacons, who own a current No. 15 national rank, captured all 15 sets on the way to a 7-0 non-conference victory over East Carolina Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
In addition to sweeping singles play, Wake Forest (2-0) also secured the doubles point after winning all three matches by a combined score of 24-7. The Pirates' No. 2 tandem of senior Nick Rose and freshman Brian Walters posted an ECU-high three game victories before falling 8-3 to Mariusz Adamski and Brett Ross.
In singles play, the Demon Deacons were led by the country's 11th-ranked individual performer, Todd Paul, who opened play with a 6-3, 6-2 win over sophomore Henrique Viana in the No. 1 matchup. Walters battled WFU's Liron Strauss in a 6-1, 6-4 match at the No. 5 position while sophomore Ricardo Barone dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Adamski at No. 3 to represent ECU's most competitive efforts.
The Pirates will play a neutral match againts East Tennessee State Sunday morning in Winston-Salem before opening their home schedule Thursday against Mount Olive College beginning at 2:00 p.m.
