CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Bryan Oakley won three singles matches and captured the consolation title to lead the East Carolina men's tennis squad last weekend at the UNC Fall Invitational held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Sophomores Aleksey Kochetov and Brian Walters, along with freshmen Matt Peeler and Stephen Whitwell, added a pair of wins each to help highlight ECU's third tournament of the fall season.
After taking an early loss, Oakley bounced back to knock off Scott Myers (Davidson) 6-4, 6-0 and continued to run through his bracket by defeating Ramsey Lemaich of Navy (6-2, 5-7, 1-0/12) and Sandeep Daiya of North Carolina (6-3, 3-6, 1-0/7).
In doubles action, Peeler and fellow rookie Greg Simon teamed up to post a pair of victories over Wofford's Richard Cahi/Jason McElveen (9-8/7) and UNC-Greensboro's Ian Conchar/William Johnson (8-5).
After an off week, the Pirates will return to action Oct. 13-15 at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia.
