Swimming And Diving Teams Contine C-USA Championship Competition

HOUSTON, Texas --- The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team slipped to fourth place at the 2006 Conference USA Championships on Friday, while the men's team held onto its second place standing in the Men's Invitational. The women's team had been in third placing entering today's competition.
The SMU women's team is on pace to capture its first Conference USA Championship title as the Mustangs are nearly 200 points ahead of all competition. Houston holds a score of 374 entering the final day of competition, while Rice (372.5), East Carolina (362), Tulane (284.5) and Marshall (164) follow.
SMU resumes the lead for the Men's Invitational, tallying 684 points through Friday's competition with ECU (561) in second place ahead of third place Hawaii (364).
Freshman Christoph Lubenau registered an NCAA B Qualifying time in the 100-ayrd butterfly. He placed third in the event with a time of 48.54.
Also recording an NCAA B Qualifying time was sophomore Rebecca Perry in the 200-yard freestyle. Perry eclipsed the poll record time, but only finished fifth with a mark of 1:49.10.
Sophomore Peter Bradyhouse medaled on the three-meter boards, placing third with a mark of 242.70.
Sophomore Christie Icenhower, who medaled on the three-meter board last night by placing third, finished fourth on the one-meter board tonight with a score of 257.65.
Sophomore Greg Neville and junior Matt Donohue placed second and third in 100-yard backstroke. Neville touched in a time of 50.71, while Donohue finished with a mark of 51.39.
Former 400 IM champion Holly Williams placed seventh in the race tonight with a time of 4:31.92. Williams won the event during the 2004 championships.
The final day of the 2006 C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational begins on Saturday with the prelims at 11 a.m.
