CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina rallied back after dropping the doubles point to win four of five singles matches and post a 4-2 non-conference victory over East Carolina Friday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Lady Pirates snapped CCU's perfect 6-0 doubles record this season by using 9-7 and 8-6 wins by duos Kirstin Buchanan/Gillie Bailey (No. 1) and Luiza Borges/Mireia Gol (No. 3), respectively.
Gol turned in ECU's only singles win by defeating Virginie Dinh 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 slot but the Chanticleers quickly took control of the match by rolling off four straight victories. Coastal Carolina's Hayley Rudman handed Anca Dumitru a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 1 to begin the rally before Petra Jantti posted a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Bailey (No. 3), Sarize Coetzee outlasted Borges 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 (No. 5) and Amy Pazahanick finished off Hannah Priest 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.
The Lady Pirates will continue their trip with a pair of matches in Charleston, S.C. Saturday - facing off against the College of Charleston at 9 a.m. before meeting Charleston Southern at 3:00 p.m.
