Seahawks Handle Pirates 6-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington took five of six singles matches and swept the doubles point to hand East Carolina its fifth-straight setback with a 6-1 non-conference victory Wednesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

The Seahawks' doubles pair of Grant Holland and Dennis Meyers posted an 8-3 win over Aleksey Kochetov and Nick Rose at the No. 1 slot before Gustavo Bertei and Henrique Meloni secured the opening tally with an 8-2 triumph against ECU's Mike Catalano and Brian Walters at the No. 2 position.

Sophomore Henrique Viana picked up the Pirates' only victory of the afternoon when he rallied past Bertei 6-4, 5-7 (10-8) in a No. 2 singles match.

UNC Wilmington logged wins in the other five slots as Caio Piacentini rolled past Kochetov (6-4, 6-1) at No. 1, Meyers defeated Walters (6-2, 7-5) at No. 3, Holland dispatched Rose (6-3, 7-5) at No. 4, Meloni handled Catalano (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 and Rahul Rajkhewa stopped Britton Steele (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6.

The Pirates will return home for the first time in over a month when they host Richmond Saturday in a match scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the ECU Tennis Complex.
