GREENVILLE, S.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team carded a first round 301 and currently sits in a four-way tie for seventh place with two rounds left to play at the 37th annual Furman Intercollegiate. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course.
ECU's Robin Smith lead the way with a one-over par 73 (36-37), which id good enough for a share of 16th place. Andre Thorsen is tied for 25th with a round of 74. Martin Nicholls (76) is tied for 46th, while David Smith (78) is tied for 63rd and Philip Reale (81) is tied for 87th.
The University of Maryland leads the team portion of the tournament with a one-over par 289. Samford fired an opening round 294 to grab second place while both Furman and Wofford shot a seven over 295 to take a share of third place entering Saturday's second round.
Wofford's Adam Dox (37-32=69) recorded a three under 69 to hold the individual lead after 18 holes in the 54-hole tournament.
Three golfers fired 70 in the first round to place one stroke back of Dox. Blaine Pefflex (33-37=70) of Maryland used a three under 33 on the front nine to share second along with Western Carolina's Matt Cook (34-36=70)and Iowa's Brian DeBuhr (36-34=70).
Round two is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning with final round action scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
