Swimming And Diving Announces Recruiting Class For 2006-07

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Following a season in which both the East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams each had 10 all-conference performers, the Pirates have received commitments from 13 high school student-athletes to compete for the Pirates beginning next season.
The men's team received pledges from seven swimmers, which include Brian Honore' (West Windsor, N.J.), Jeffrey Miller (Richmond, Va.), Blake Briese (Snellville, Ga.), Jason Guzewich (King Mountain, N.C.), Hunter Mehaffey (Clyde, N.C.), Patrick Finley (Southfield, Mich.) and Mike Miller (Chesapeake, Va.).
Divers Dana Gimbor (Laurys Station, Pa.) and Megan Patro (Ridley Park, Pa.) made commitments to the women's team as did swimmers Rachel Blue (Myrtle Bach, S.C.), Krista Harmon (Rocky River, Ohio), Jacquelynn Jones (Corapolis, Pa.), and Kaitlin Potts (Chester, Va.).
"This is one of the most talented incoming groups we've ever had," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "They should enable to maintain our high standards and continue to do what we do best and that is win."
Briese, Honore' and Jeffrey Miller were all Junior National Qualifiers, while Miller was a finalist in four events.
Guzewich and Mehaffey were each finalists at the 2006 North Carolina High School Athletics Association Championships at their respective levels. Guzewich made the finals in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke events in the 1A/2A classification. Mehaffey qualified for the finals in the 100 backstroke and 200 free races at the 3A championships.
Mike Miller was a multi-event finalist at the 2006 Eastern Prep Championships, qualifying for the final race in the both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
Blue captured the state individual championship in the 50 and 100 freestyle at this year's South Carolina High School championships as a senior at Carolina Forest High becoming a junior national qualifier along the way. Potts also earned junior national qualifier status in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Hanson was also impressive during her high school state finals, place third in the 100 breaststroke at the Ohio High School championships.
Jones too was an outstanding breaststroke swimmer, reaching the finals of the 2006 Southern Speedo Sectional in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 400 IM.
Patro, Jones's Keystone State neighbor, was a U.S. Regional diving qualifer and second team all-state performer.
