GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Brett Emmers has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at East Carolina University announced first-year head coach Press McPhaul on Thursday. Emmers is the first player to commit to ECU under McPhaul.
A native of eastern North Carolina, Emmers was a four-year letterman at Wilson Fike High School and two-time North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) regional champion. As a junior, he earned conference and regional player of the year honors and was named Fike's Most Valuable Player.
"We are excited to be adding a player of Brett's caliber," stated McPhaul. "He's got great talent, that is obvious from his scores. However, the special thing about Brett is his work ethic and desire.
"I am so pleased to be adding a player like him that has a special desire to be a great player. We will place a big value on that in our program at East Carolina."
Emmers placed 22nd at the 2006 NCHSAA 3A state championship, helping Fike High School to a third place finish. Earlier in the year, he finished 18th in the 16-18 year old division at the prestigious Carolinas Junior Championship, shooting a three round total of three-under par. He also earned a first place finished at the annual Blue Devil Classic.
