Greenville, N.C. --- The ECU men's and women's swimming and diving teams kick off the 2007-2008 competition schedule with the always anticipated Purple and Gold intrasquad meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 4 at the Minges Natorium.
The Pirates will also host the East Carolina Diving Invitational on Friday at noon.
"This is always a highly competitive event," stated coach Rick Kobe, who is in his 26th year as the Pirates' head coach. "The kids are very excited to race one another and take a lot of pride in winning this meet."
The women's team is led by senior Rebecca Perry, the varsity record holder in the 50, 100 and 200, senior Kim Brewer, who ranks among the school's all-time top 10 in three events, and senior diver Christie Icenhower, an NCAA Regional Zone qualifier.
The men's team is lead by senior Geoff Handsfield, who earned Most Outstanding Swimmer honors last season, and All-Conference USA performers Charlie McCanless and Greg Neville. The Pirates return 20 lettermen from last year's team.
ECU opens the dual meet season at Davidson on October 13.
