
Pirates Come Up Short In Loss To Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. - After winning ten consecutive games, the Pirates dropped a road contest to Coastal Carolina, 4-3. A one-out RBI single to center field in the sixth inning off reliever Toni Paisley (7-2) gave the Chanticleers the winning run.
Brooke Swann started for the Pirates and lasted 1.2 innings before being replaced by Paisley. Swann ran in to trouble in the second inning with two outs when she gave up a three-run home run to Carla Hood. Paisley pitched the remaining 4.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out five.
The Pirates made a comeback in the fourth inning when Paige Baggett and Beth Nolan hit back-to-back solo home runs for the first time this season. It was the second home run in as many days for Nolan. East Carolina would tie the game in the fifth inning when Jessica Johnson hit a two-out RBI single to second base.
ECU will remain in Conway, S.C. as they play a doubleheader tomorrow against Coastal Carolina, beginning at 1 p.m.
